One year ago, Vancouver went from joyous street celebrations during the hockey playoffs to a nasty drunken riot when the Canucks lost the last game at home. One of my son's, a number of his friends and I were downtown that night and watched, rather felt, the sudden shift from a happening to a riot in a matter of minutes. The normal street people we see daily sensing trouble all disappeared, which turned out to be a sign of trouble to come. Ducking flying bottles and gangs of drunken young men, we decided it was time to head home. Crossing the bridge we could see black smoke rising above the downtown...
