Wall art as social commentary,
social backdrop,
a continuation of Berlin's long history of self examination...

East Berlin...
The architecture of utility,
of intimidation,
of the bland,
and of propaganda...
Image 1, 1950's subway tiles, still being used at Alexanderplatz.
Image 2, A timeless bureaucrat entering the Nazi Era Luftwaffe Headquarters Building, (re named I am sure.)
Image 3, Soviet Era apartment block with more modern adaptations.
Image 4, East Berlin's highest structure and biggest irony, a communication tower.

Berlin's constant struggle with the heaviness of it's past,
seems ever renewed,
as new federal money pours in
as the city renews itself as the capital of modern Germany.
And now freed of the more recent political dead lock of it's symbol,
the rapidly disappearing Berlin Wall...
Image 1, The East German Parliment Building with it's 'Worker's Paradise' mural.
Image 2, A largely untouched East Berlin lane.
Image 3, The huge and now re used Nazi era Luftwaffe headquarters building.
Image 4, Omnipresent construction cranes rising over a section of the Berlin Wall.
Image 5, A Baroque Palace on Museum Island.
