Photography can be a conflicted profession/ hobby. Many of us are seriously into the gear, and not surprisingly, this is encouraged by the camera makers who, monthly bring out new and improved models. And as a result, there is a huge amount of grey market gear trading going on the internet. I have met many like myself who buy and sell through 'craigslist', and often finding myself meeting the same people over and over. I am willing to bet there is a lot more then coffee being sold in many Starbucks locations.
But in the end, photography is about exploring our world and making images. The equipment we use is really only a tool for image making. It can be hard to keep that in mind when we are under the constant blizzard of advertising both in print and on the internet.
I am no less conflicted then many fellow photogs I know. But in the end, my interest is sustained by seeing and seeking out the world around me, be it wonderful or just ordinary.
